Bloganuary Day 27

What books do you want to read?

I want to read ALL of the books! Although sometimes I go in spurts and stops and end up in a TV show binge. For instance right now that show is This Is Us. I just finished the first season last night.

For the last several years I have done the PopSugar reading challenge but this year I don’t want to. It has been really helpful to use a challenge like that to get me reading outside of what I normally read but this year I am planning to read whatever I want without having to categorize. Iwill, of course, include books that I will read from the book club I have been a part of for years!

Right now I am reading Trail of the Lost. I think I am going to pick up Hatchet as one of the classes I push into is reading it. I just finished The Personal Librarian and The Last Unicorn. I also read 3 picture books last week.

I always set a goal of how many books I want to read for the year. This year is set at 60. We’ll see how it goes!

Bloganuary Day 26

Write about a few of your favorite family traditions.

One of our favorite family traditions is on Christmas Eve. After a candlelight service we get hot chocolate and drive around looking at Christmas lights. We have done that since the kids were babies and it is a fun, sweet time!

Bloganuary Day 25

What do you enjoy doing most in your leisure time?

Leisure time… Sometimes I am not really sure what that is and then other times I think I just fill all my time with pretty fun stuff. Live music performances are always fun. Meeting goals I’ve set for myself is accomplished during my leisure time. Conquering new trails and visiting State Parks are enjoyable. Sometimes I also enjoy being quiet and doing absolutely nothing!

Bloganuary Day 24

Name an attraction or town close to home that you still haven’t got around to visiting.

I am an adventurer! Last year I visited and hiked all 57 Tennessee State Parks so I covered a lot of ground. This year Tennessee added 2 more State Parks so those are on the adventure agenda for this year along with some of the waterfalls I haven’t hiked to yet!

Bloganuary Day 23

List five things you do for fun.

Five things I do for fun. I have lots of big things I do for fun but the smaller things are:

1) scroll Zillow listings for a home with acreage

2) take photos of fungi

3) tune in to Dr. Pimple Popper because she really does change people’s lives!

4) when hiking, stop and listen and be in the moment

5) research ways to ward off the stinky neighborhood skunk population

Bloganuary Day 21

Write about your first name: its meaning, significance, etymology, etc.

As you can see from the title of my blog my name is Karen. My mom told me from a young age that she gave me my name because every Karen she ever knew was beautiful inside and out.

Last year my name was only given to one baby in the United States. It’s a shame that people have been so ugly and have used my name as a slur and made people afraid to name their babies Karen. I happen to love my name. If you actually know anyone named Karen you probably know they are kind, empathetic, and want what is best for those around them.

Bloganuary Day 20

What’s your dream job?

I have been an educator for a really long time. I loved teaching non traditional adult students and did that for about 10 years. I loved teaching my son on our homeschool journey through high school. While I am really good at it and have gotten to teach some really incredible kids, I am not as fond of being a substitute teacher.

My dream job is an Interpretive State Park Ranger. That is a ranger that gets to create programs, lead hikes, and teach people in the State Parks without the enforcement responsibilities. I would still get to teach without having to be indoors all day long!

Bloganuary Day 19

What makes a good leader?

Are leaders born or are they made? I feel like good leaders learn from others. They are more than happy to get a mentor so they can better themselves. They listen to the people they are leading and are the first to jump in and do the work they are leading others to do.

Bloganuary Day 18

If you could un-invent something, what would it be?

It’s funny to think about uninventing something instead of inventing. There are so many things that make our lives easier from communication to comfort.

I think I would uninvent comment trolls.

No one wants to hear from people/ai/bots that are only there to tear people down.

Bloganuary Day 17

Can you share a positive example of where you’ve felt loved?

How do I choose just one instance of feeling loved? There are so many examples from which to pick

As a Christian I have felt loved by God in the good times and in the trials.

I have felt loved by my parents and by my in-laws.

My hubs makes me feel loved and cherished on a regular basis.

I feel loved when I spend time with my friends.

I feel loved by my kids when we get to spend time together.

I feel loved by my cat who thinks she needs to be attached to my hip

I’m thankful that I have lots of people that I love and that love me!
